having a little crush – mad music mondays

Episode 2.

For those just joining, welcome to mad music mondays, where I will be taking you on a journey through my creative process of releasing my first single. Last week’s episode is available here.

Some of you will have listened to my single by now – for those who haven’t, don’t worry, I’ve included the link at the end of this post.

As much as I don’t call it a ‘love song’, it is often called that by others. I think a more accurate description would be a ‘having a little crush’ song.

Last week, I mentioned that this journey is really delving into how this song survived against other competing ideas. Having a little crush is right at the heart of it.

I had just moved to a new country, accents sounded beautiful, and although I’m not really sure if I remember exactly which little crush led to this song, I know that one of them did.

Emotions are the tools of the artist’s trade, and when I wrote the lyrics for ‘you should know’, I was wishing I was brave enough to send this song to my little crush at the time.

Got to be honest though; quite glad I didn’t. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t 😉

So that’s the story of how this song survived when others didn’t. Because I had a little crush. You are welcome.

Keep reading for the challenge that I have now added because of that little crush.

The song, ‘you should know’, is about that fleeting, uncomplicated moment of realising that you like someone. The brave among you will send it to your crush (whether or not they know).

If you number among those brave souls, please comment ‘challenge accepted’. Knowing that will bring me great joy.
