away

‘Is it further away than last time?’

As always, children have a way

Of asking a question that gets

straight

to

the

point.

If you’re leaving, how far

away

will you be from

me?

That’s what they’re asking.

Because to them,

whether or not either of you know it,

part of you

belongs to them.

They’re asking how far away

the part of you that belongs to them

will be.

The answer is

..

.

far.

The answer is so far

that by the time they might get that part of

me

that belongs to

them

back,

they might have forgotten that it belongs to them in the first place.

‘Is it further away than last time?’

Yes.
